Rolex Dressage

One of the many benefits of working in an office at the Kentucky Horse Park is that I get tickets to most of the events.  This weekend it is the legendary Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event or as it is widely know, "Rolex".

Lunch hours are spend perusing the vendors eating high priced fair food (that burger wasn't worth the $9 I paid) and running into people you see once a year at Rolex.

This year I stopped and watched a bit of the dressage as I caught up with a friend from my youth.  Going to these horse shows makes me yearn to get another horse and today was no different.  I can only imagine what tomorrow will be like when I watch cross country, my favorite of the three days.

I RESISTED!!!

A friend and I visited the local Tractor Supply store so I could pick up a card and as I paused from talking my ears picked up a faint chirping (actually it wasn’t faint, I had just decided to start listening.) Immediately my brain processed the sound and I knew it was the music of baby chicks.

Ditching my friend, with a quick “Chickens!” over my shoulder, I raced toward the sound. There I found bins full of baby chicks, ducklings and bunnies. And they were so adorable, I wanted to take them home. Problem: I don’t need any more chickens. A little backstory: I love chickens and every spring I have to stay away from the farm stores so that I am not tempted. I live on a farm that has 80 chickens, 5 cows, a donkey and a mule…and I personally have two dogs, a foster dog and 3 cats so I don’t need any more animals. But dang they were cute and oh so tempting.

After much effort, and help from my friend, I left the store without any animals. I know that my animals are happy for that.

Relax

My partner in crime is enjoying the late afternoon spring weather. He is resting to go herd the chickens on for the night. He sits by the gate and howls, while I do the dirty work. Nothing like teamwork...

The Grand Chicken

I have friends of the feathery kind, one in particular who was introduced in the previous post...Miss Piggy. Each evening I secure all the chickens in the coop so that the neighborhood raccoons don't mingle. And each night I have a helper, Miss Piggy.

She has found that hanging out with me keeps the others from pulling out her tail feathers, at least for a little while. This particular evening she was enjoying towering over the others and I think she started to think that she could soar like the others birds outside the coop.

She is a fun chicken who makes a mundane task very interesting.

P.S. So far she hasn't left her mark.
